Meet outside Ormskirk Station from 10:15 (trains from Liverpool arrive at 10:00 and 10:30). 41 miles at about 10 to 11 mph, all on tarmac but with 1,900 ft of climbing.
Out via Lathom and Bispham Green to Wrightington, then around Coppull, through Heath Charnock and Adlington to The Rivington Cafe overlooking Rivington Reservoir for lunch. Back through Blackrod, Standish and Shevington, then Appley Bridge and Dalton, and around Skelmersdale to Ormskirk station.
